Wild hops

Also called bryony , a plant of the genus Bryonia, A vine with a root that can be dried and used as a purgative. There is also a wild hop (Humulus
lupulus) a vine that escaped from gardens into the wild. The ripened and dried pistillate cones of these plants is used to impart a bitter flavor to malt liquor. The vine was a very popular garden ornament of the late nineteenth century
