Any marine reptile of the order Chelonia. They are characterized by the bony shell into which many species withdraw head, limbs and tail. They also have a toothless bony beak. Fresh water turtles are native to the Little Cuyahoga River and also along the canal. They were common on the canal boat bill of fare. May have included: Spotted Turtle, Box Turtle, Painted Turtle, Red Eared Slider, Mud Turtle and Snapping Turtle.
