Iron

First worked in the Akron area in l816 at the iron furnace in Middlebury, near the present Goodyear. A year later iron was being made at what was known as Old Forge, near Forge and Arlington streets. Within a decade after the opening of the Ohio Canal, fivee furnaces for making iron were constructed on the Cascade Mill Race between Mill and Morth Streets. The largest was the Aetna.
