Aetna Mill

One of Akron’s early mills. Built in l838 near the site which is now between the steam plant and Ace Rubber. Nearby was an earlier Aetna pig iron furnace erected in l832-3 and named after a volcano in Sicily. The furnace was destroyed by fire in l847. Aetna Mill burned twice, in l853 and again in l884. Both locks 11 and 12 were called the Aetna Mills locks.
