(Polygonum cuspidatum) An Asian weedy shrub. Common throughout the floodplain of the river valley, especially north of North Street. It forms thickets of bamboolike, ten foot tall shoots. The largest stand is in the confluence of the canal and the Cuyahoga River, just north of Lock 15. It is one of the ten most invasive plants in the world. It can be eaten when the shoots are only a couple inches high. It’s sort of like asparagus.
